Looking for a website builder in 2026 means fifteen tabs and fifteen "top 10" lists that don't agree.
So here is one comparison built for a simple question: what does one website really cost, and what do you get? With the renewal price, the phone version and drag and drop, which most lists leave out.
By Aliya, founder of Big Cat. Prices up to date: October 2026. Next update: January 2027. Big Cat is our product, so it is not in this ranking: you'll find it, clearly marked, in the AI section.

| Builder | Best for | Price for 1 site | The catch | Drag anywhere? | Phone version | AI builds a first draft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wix | All-rounder | about US$17/mo (Light, yearly) | Free domain only year 1 | Yes, free placement | Automatic | ✦ Yes (Wix AI) |
| Squarespace | Polished templates | €14.40/mo yearly, €20.40 monthly (Basic) | Free domain only year 1 | Flexible grid | Automatic | ✦ Yes (Blueprint) |
| WordPress.com | Freedom, blogs | US$4/mo yearly, $9 monthly (Personal) | Plugins and store need higher plans | Blocks | Depends on the theme | ✦ Paid plans |
| Shopify | Online store | €27/mo yearly, €36 monthly (Basic) | It's a store plan, not a simple site | Sections | Automatic | ✦ Store tools |
| Webflow | Designers | US$15/mo yearly (Basic) | Prices changed in May 2026 | Structured layout | Automatic, then you adjust | ✦ Yes |
| Framer | Designers | US$10/mo yearly (Basic) | A design tool to learn | Yes, free canvas | Automatic, then you adjust | ✦ Yes |
| Hostinger | Smallest budget | US$2.49/mo on a 48-month term (Premium) | Renews at US$10.99/mo | Drag and drop | Automatic | ✦ Yes |
| GoDaddy | Online this week | Intro price, check the page | Renews higher than the intro | Sections | Automatic | ✦ Yes (Airo) |
| Showit | Creatives | US$22/mo yearly, $27 monthly | No built-in store | Yes, free canvas | By hand | No |
| Canva | One quick page | US$144/year (Pro) | Pro needed for your domain and no footer | Yes, free canvas | Automatic | ✦ AI design tools |
The thing most lists don't show: the first price is often not the price you keep. Hostinger's lowest price needs 48 months paid upfront and renews about four times higher. And a "free domain" is free for the first year only at Wix, Squarespace, WordPress.com, Hostinger and GoDaddy.

How we compared
- Prices: each official pricing page, read in October 2026. We looked for the cheapest plan that puts one site on your own domain without the builder's ads, and for the renewal price.
- Features: official feature pages first. Where a page didn't say, we left it simple instead of guessing.
- What people say: user threads on Reddit and Quora, and public reviews.
- Videos: we checked five popular 2025–2026 comparison videos. All five carry affiliate or partner links to the builders they recommend. That doesn't make them wrong, but you should know.
- What we added: drag and drop, the phone version, and the renewal price. Most comparison pages skip them, and they are what people complain about later.
The 10 builders, one by one
1. Wix
What it is: the most used website builder. An app market, store, bookings, email, and Wix AI to make a first draft. Price for 1 site: about US$17/mo on the Light plan, yearly. People like: everything in one place, beginner friendly. People complain: the editor can feel heavy; price adds up with apps. Best for: a business that needs many tools in one place.
Aliya's take (my experience): Wix was my first. For me it was clunky, things I moved kept jumping back, and it was too expensive for one website. Many people love it.
2. Squarespace
What it is: elegant templates on a flexible grid, with Blueprint AI to start. Price for 1 site: €14.40/mo yearly on Basic (EU page). People like: hard to make ugly, polished. People complain: you can't place things exactly where you want. Best for: polished and safe, if the price fits.
Aliya's take: amazing, absolutely. But for one website it was always too expensive for me, so I never really used it.
3. WordPress.com
What it is: the hosted version of WordPress, with blocks and themes. Price for 1 site: US$4/mo yearly on Personal. People like: freedom, blogging, growth. People complain: plugins, store and more advanced features need higher plans; more to learn. Best for: blogs and people who like the technical side.
4. Shopify
What it is: the store builder. Price for 1 site: €27/mo yearly on Basic, a store plan. People like: selling products, payments, apps. People complain: apps add monthly costs; heavy for a simple service site. Best for: when your website is your shop.
5. Webflow
What it is: professional design control, structured layouts, a real CMS. Price for 1 site: US$15/mo yearly on Basic (new prices since May 2026). People like: design freedom, clean code, strong SEO. People complain: steep learning curve. Best for: designers, or a business with one.
6. Framer
What it is: a design canvas that publishes websites, with AI to start. Price for 1 site: US$10/mo yearly on Basic. People like: motion, beautiful results, freedom. People complain: you need to learn it; store and bookings are limited. Best for: designers and people who enjoy design tools.
Aliya's take: way too complicated for me, even if it has great potential.
7. Hostinger
What it is: hosting, domain, email and a drag-and-drop builder with AI. Price for 1 site: US$2.49/mo on a 48-month term, then US$10.99/mo. People like: very cheap to start, simple. People complain: the renewal price; designs can look basic. Best for: a simple site on a small budget.
Aliya's take: way too simplistic, but really cheap. I put some of my simple sites there.
8. GoDaddy
What it is: a section-based builder with Airo AI, close to your domain if it's already there. Price for 1 site: an intro price that renews higher; check the page for your country. People like: online fast. People complain: basic designs, upsells. Best for: online this week, design second.
9. Showit
What it is: drag anything anywhere, loved by photographers and creatives. Price for 1 site: US$22/mo yearly, $27 monthly. People like: total creative freedom, beautiful templates. People complain: the phone version is designed by hand; no built-in store; blog runs on WordPress. Best for: creatives with time to design.
Aliya's take: Showit was the best for me: drag everything anywhere, inspiring templates. But the phone version by hand made me crazy, and for one site it was very expensive for me.
10. Canva
What it is: turn a Canva design into a simple website. Price for 1 site: US$144/year on Pro (needed for your own domain and to remove the footer). People like: you already know it. People complain: limited for a growing business. Best for: one quick page today.
And the AI website builders?
Almost every builder above has AI now. But "AI" means different things: some write a first draft from a prompt, some ask you three questions, one starts from a design you love.
The best-known AI-first builders, at a glance:
| AI builder | How the AI starts | Price for 1 site |
|---|---|---|
| ✦ Big Cat (ours) | A design you love: a site, a screenshot, a Pinterest board | €12/mo, or €10/mo paid every 6 months |
| ✦ Lovable | A chat prompt (it writes code) | €25/mo (Pro), credits |
| ✦ Bolt | A chat prompt (it writes code) | US$25/mo (Pro) |
| ✦ Replit | A chat prompt to its Agent | US$20/mo, plus hosting use |
| ✦ Readdy | A prompt, a screenshot or a link | US$15/mo yearly, credits |
| ✦ Durable | A few questions about your business | US$22/mo yearly, domain included |
| ✦ Relume | A prompt, then a sitemap and wireframes | US$14/mo + US$12/mo for your domain |
